With the recent contribution of beds, mattresses, bed linens and shelves from Donny, Selina and Shad, the old folks in Shanti’s home can now sleep much more comfortably, and have shelves to store their personal belongings. Thank you very much from Friends of Kapar!

The arrival of Kartik has also brought some excitement to the home, although it is more work for Shanti herself. The old folks now have Shanti’s daughter and Kartik to pamper and play with.

A rice cooker and wok were also donated by Vivian and added to Shanti’s kitchen. Despite having to take care of 10 elderly folks, Kartik, and also her own family, she still manages to keep the house clean and in order. The kitchen is well-organised and her backyard is a place for the old ones to be outdoors and relax.

On our last visit to Shanti’s Home on 3 Oct, we found out that her husband has lost his job, and she is struggling to feed her extended family. Her main concern is having enough food on the table. In my recent visit to an orphanage, I was told that they need RM18K a month to feed/house 50 orphans/old folks. Using the same proportion, Shanti’s home expenses is about RM5K per month. Friends of Kapar helps with some basic groceries (rice, rice flour, potatoes, onions, sugar, salt, cooking oil, and dhall), milk powder and diapers, but these contributions are not adequate for a whole month. They also need food stuffs like noodles, fresh vegetables, eggs, and biscuits as tea time snacks for the old folks.

We are looking for sponsors of the above food items. It doesn’t have to come from a single sponsor. You can choose to donate 1-2 items on a monthly basis. Please contact Ainie or Kim if you wish to donate to Shanti’s Home.
