Friends of Kapar is a Non-Governmental Organisation. It has a mission to help the hardcore poor. It transcends the border of race, religion, culture and political beliefs. Started in Kapar, Klang, it has now spread its wings to other areas where the issues of hardcore poor have not been addressed.

Friends of Kapar started in April 2009 with 2 ladies of diverse backgrounds but with a passion to assist the hardcore poor. They started without any real financial support and rely solely on ad hoc donations from family members, friends, as well as out of their own pockets. Within a few months, the group of two has swelled to a sizeable number of volunteers, with donations trickling in to help them materialise their mission. The target group were identified with assistance of a community leader.

Friends of Kapar has a clear focus to deliver its primary mission of providing sustenance to alleviate hunger and desperation. With food taken care of, the families are able to concentrate their effort in trying to get back on their feet. In its short period of existence, Friends of Kapar has helped a few families to get on with their daily lives. To date, 35 families in and around Kapar are being provided with grocery items on a monthly basis by Friends of Kapar, and these numbers are steadily growing.

Friends of Kapar aims to provide education and training to the children and youths of the community. In the hope that armed with education and training they are able to lift themselves and their families out of the tight and vicious grip of poverty.

A Community Nurture Centre (CNC) was set-up in Feb 2010. Under the roof of the CNC, there is a Tuition Centre which aims at providing tuition to the underprivileged children. Also in the CNC, is a Resource Centre where the children have access to books and educational TV programmes. A Toy Library is also being set up for the children to play and interact with each other in a healthy environment. Apart from that, the CNC aims to provide living skills and training for those who are less inclined academically.

On the 2nd Feb 2010, the CNC opened its doors to the underprivileged children of Kapar. Tuition services are conducted by experienced tutors in their fields. The aim of the Tuition Centre is to assist the school-going children in their various school lessons and most importantly in coaching those who will be sitting for the major school examinations, namely UPSR, PMR and SPM.

The CNC is managed and staffed by Volunteers, as well as supported by professional members of the public. The Centre runs solely on donations and contributions from kind hearted donors.

We cannot change the world but we can make a difference. Please help us to make a difference in their lives.
